FINANCIAL CLARITY

Money gets easier when someone explains what actually matters.

One useful money decision at a time. I explain what changed, what matters, the catch people miss, and what I would check next — in plain English.

I’m retired from financial planning. I’m not trying to turn you into a client, sell you an investment, or get you on a call.

Something worth opening when I have something worth sending.
WHAT YOU’RE ACTUALLY SIGNING UP FOR

Not “five hot tips.” A way to understand the decision.

Most Financial Clarity issues follow the same mental path, even when the topic changes.

  1. 01What changed?

The rule, market move, deadline, number, or decision worth paying attention to.

  2. 02What does it mean?

The mechanism in normal language, without assuming you already speak finance.

  3. 03What’s the catch?

The condition, trade-off, tax interaction, timing issue, or fine print people skip.

  4. 04Does it matter to me?

The household consequence. Sometimes the headline matters. Sometimes it really doesn’t.

  5. 05What would I check next?

A decision rule, number, tool, question, or next step you can actually use.

01 · THE QUESTION

This Bond Market Story Is Bigger Than Bonds

The bond market sounds like Wall Street plumbing. But the price of money set there can reach your mortgage, retirement income, savings account, stocks and next car loan.

Start with the consequence, not the jargon.

WHAT I COVER

The topics change. The job stays the same: help you make sense of the money decision.

Not every subject every week. The issue earns its way into the newsletter by being useful now.

01

Retirement income & withdrawals

How savings become a paycheck, what can break the plan, and which account supplies the next dollar.

02

Taxes, Roth conversions & IRMAA

Where a “good tax move” creates a second consequence people often miss.

03

Social Security & Medicare

Timing, trade-offs, thresholds, and the rules that suddenly matter when dates change.

04

Investing & markets

What the market story actually means for a household instead of another prediction about where prices go next.

05

Credit, debt, cash & borrowing

Rates, payoff choices, cash decisions, credit mechanics and everyday financial friction.

06

Estate planning & the paperwork nobody loves

Beneficiaries, ownership, inherited money, forms and the practical handoffs that matter.

WHY IT’S DIFFERENT

I don’t need the email to turn you into anything.

That changes what belongs in it.

ONE DECISIONNot a pile of “10 things to know.”

Each issue has one main reader job. Finish it knowing something more clearly than when you started.

THE MECHANISMNot just the headline.

I want you to understand why something happens so the explanation still helps after this week’s news is gone.

INBOX VALUEUseful even if you never click.

The email gives you the core answer. Links are for tools, full examples, source detail or a deeper next step.

NO PROSPECTINGNo meeting hiding at the bottom.

I’m retired from individual client work. The newsletter is education, not a disguised sales funnel.

Michael Ryan
WHO’S WRITING THIS?

I’m Michael Ryan.

I spent nearly 30 years around financial planning. These days I’m a financial educator, not an adviser looking for the next household to sign.

What I kept from those years is the part I liked best: taking a complicated rule or decision, figuring out where the real catch is, and explaining it so a normal person can actually use it.

“If you and I were looking at this together, what number would I check first?”

My work has been quoted or featured by outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, Business Insider, Yahoo Finance and Newsweek.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU JOIN

No mystery funnel.

  1. 01Confirm your email

One click tells me you actually asked for Financial Clarity.

  2. 02Get a short welcome

I set expectations, explain what I’m trying to do, and make it easy to reply.

  3. 03See how I think

The next note walks through one real financial decision and the hidden consequences around it.

  4. 04Tell me what you care about

Retirement? Taxes? Social Security? Investing? Credit? Estate planning? One word is enough.

BEFORE YOU HAND OVER YOUR EMAIL

Fair questions.

How often will you email me?

I aim for one worthwhile Financial Clarity issue each week. If a major event genuinely deserves a special edition, I may send one. I would rather skip filler than manufacture a reason to email you.

Is this mainly for retirees?

Retirement is a major part of what I cover, but the newsletter also follows taxes, investing, Social Security, Medicare, credit, debt, cash flow, estate planning and the financial decisions that connect them.

Is this a sales funnel for financial planning?

No. I’m retired from individual client work. There is no advisory meeting, investment pitch or coaching offer hiding at the end.

What happens to my email?

You’ll receive a confirmation email first. Your address is used for Financial Clarity and its welcome sequence. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter email. See the privacy policy for the site’s data practices.

TRY IT

Let the next issue prove whether this belongs in your inbox.

If it’s useful, stay. If it isn’t, unsubscribe. That’s a pretty fair deal.
